I recently built a PC with an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE cooler, and a few other solid components. However, I'm facing a cooling issue where the motherboard temperature peaked at 95 degrees Celsius while I was just loading Marvel Rivals for the first time. My setup includes the MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK motherboard, Corsair Vengeance RGB 32 GB RAM, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB SSD, Zotac GAMING SOLID OC GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, and an MSI MPG A1000GS PCIE5 1000 W PSU, all housed in a North XL case. I haven't overclocked anything except for enabling XMP. I'm curious whether I should add more fans to improve cooling, especially given the high motherboard temperature I noticed.

It sounds like you might have enough intake fans, but adding a dedicated exhaust fan could help a lot! It's great to check how many intake fans you actually have in front—if there are two, it might just be a matter of getting some airflow out. The max temp for the 9800X3D is 95°C, so if you hit that during heavy loads, that can be pretty normal, but keep an eye on it during gaming sessions too.
Yeah, I noticed my temps spike at the start of games too. Just make sure it's not hitting 95°C constantly!
Your case should handle cooling just fine as it is, assuming you have the right thermal paste applied and removed any stickers from the cooler. Sometimes just checking those basics can make a big difference! Have you thought about maybe adjusting fan curves or speeds in your BIOS?
I let Microcenter build it for me, so I’m not sure about the thermal paste or anything. I’ll check with them!
Yeah, my system hit those temps when I was gaming hard, but as long as it cools down afterward, you're probably okay.
