Hey everyone! I'm currently working with a pretty old setup that I built back in 2014, which includes a Z87-A motherboard, a GTX 970, 32GB of DDR3 RAM, and a Cooler Master G650M 650W power supply. I mostly use my computer for gaming and IT labs since I'm a cybersecurity engineer. Recently, I bought a kit that has an ASUS B660 PLUS D4 motherboard, an i5-13400F processor, and 32GB of DDR4 3600 RAM, but now I'm facing a problem. The new motherboard won't boot at all—no fans or lights turning on. I've checked various things, including different RAM slots, and even used a multimeter and thermal camera to look for electrical issues, but I'm still stuck. Now I'm wondering if I need to upgrade my power supply since it seems like the new motherboard might not be receiving power. Are there any new standards I should be aware of? Thanks!

I think your PSU should work since the standards are still the same. But have you checked all the cables? I had a similar issue where a single misplaced cable caused my computer not to boot! Trying an open-air setup may help isolate the problem, too.
Your Cooler Master G650M is compatible with your new setup, but since it's over 10 years old, it might not be delivering stable power anymore, causing boot issues. If you’ve checked all the connections and reset the CMOS but still have nothing happening, the PSU could very well be the culprit. I recommend testing with a newer PSU if you can find one. Even if your G650M seems okay, bringing in a fresh, reliable power supply can help prevent future issues.
Your PSU should technically still be fine since it supports standard ATX connectors, and there's no new power standard you need to worry about. It sounds more like an issue with the motherboard, so double-check that all your cables are plugged in correctly. You could also try booting without the CPU and RAM to see if it gets any power at all.
