Do I Really Need a Water Cooler for the 9800x3D or Are Air Coolers Enough?

I'm new to building PCs and I've never used a water cooler before. Some folks say that water cooling is essential because of heat issues with the "hot cache" in the 9800x3D, while others insist that a good air cooler will do just fine. I'd love some advice on whether I should opt for a water cooler or if there are budget-friendly air cooler options that would work well instead.

I also recommend the Thermalright Peerless Assassin V2. I've been using it and it's just fantastic—definitely enough to keep your 9800x3D cool without needing to jump to liquid cooling.

Totally agree! I’ve been pretty impressed with how well it performs compared to AIOs.

If you’re considering how quiet you want your setup, remember that AIOs are quieter than air coolers. But for aesthetics, air coolers can look good too! Just weigh your priorities.

Honestly, most medium to large air coolers can handle this chip with ease. The Phantom Spirit Evo looks great too and has fans designed for higher temperatures, which is a plus!

Look, if you’re after efficiency, the 9800x3D doesn't need fancy liquid cooling. In fact, I use a single air tower cooler, the Thermalright Assassin King, and my system runs great—much cooler than the 13900k while gaming! Plus, the Phantom Spirit is cheap and reliable.

An air cooler works just fine for the 9800x3D! For instance, the Thermalright Phantom Spirit is excellent and only costs around $35. It’s an affordable choice that gets the job done without any hassle.
