Feeling Overwhelmed After Sysadmins Quitting – What Should I Do?

Hey everyone, I'm new to the IT field, having recently graduated with a degree in IT. Currently, I'm working as an IT Analyst at my company, covering various responsibilities from security to specific applications. Recently, two of our main system admins resigned back-to-back, and now I'm expected to fill their shoes as the sysadmin for several critical business servers. The first left yesterday, and the other has one week remaining. This sudden expectation has me stressed, especially since I've never been a sysadmin before and I know the previous admins left because they were overwhelmed and overworked without proper compensation.

I'm really anxious about taking on this added responsibility and considering the current job market, I'm hesitant to quit. How can I manage the stress and anxiety that comes with this situation?

You know, it's totally okay to say "no" to taking on extra work. Don't let your employer pressure you into picking up the slack for others. It's important to set boundaries and remember you shouldn't be responsible for taking on more roles than you're qualified for. If you're okay with the responsibility after talking it through, just be mindful not to overcommit yourself.

Absolutely, finding your voice is crucial. Those who can assert their boundaries will likely have longer job satisfaction rather than being overworked. It's all about holding management accountable.
