Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I've been learning programming for about 6 months now, putting in over 1,000 hours and dabbling in things like building an HTTP server and some backend web apps. Currently, I'm mostly using Go but I'm feeling really unenthused about making a web application for my capstone project. I'm also exploring lower-level programming, and I've started reading "Modern C" in small doses. I'm enrolled in math classes, and while I recognize that understanding more advanced math would help me in areas like graphics and rendering, I can't shake this feeling of being lost. I really want to stay engaged with programming but need help deciding on the right path. Any project ideas that aren't just about web apps?

Remember, web apps aren't everything in programming. There's backend development, game dev, AI—plenty of areas to explore. For a capstone project, consider backend systems or even data science. Nothing says you need to stick to frontend work!
Have you considered robotics or logistics automation? Those fields are really booming and could align well with your interests. Plus, they often have some interesting programming challenges!
That’s an intriguing suggestion! I’ll definitely look into robotics. Have you dabbled in that field?
AI could also be a cool area to explore. There are tons of backend projects in machine learning that could tie into your math classes. It’s a lot to learn, but it could keep things exciting!
I think AI could be a good fit! Thanks for that idea, I’m looking forward to connecting it with my math studies.
How about trying your hand at game development? It might provide the challenge you’re looking for and it’s pretty interesting. You mentioned enjoying the coding side of game development, so diving into graphics or even game mechanics could be a fun direction!
I’ve actually thought about that! I learned some Unity before and had fun with it. I think I’ll definitely explore game dev more.
If you're really up for a challenge, have you thought about writing your own compiler? It’s definitely ambitious, but it’s a fantastic learning experience. I've heard it’s recommended for a reason!
Yeah, I’ve seen that on lists of things to try. It’s definitely on my radar for future projects!
True, that makes sense! I just feel a bit uninspired about what to create right now.
