I've been trying to get the hang of Linux for a month, specifically Ubuntu 24.04, but it's been quite the headache! My system keeps freezing up, especially when using my NVIDIA graphics. I switched to the integrated Intel graphics using EnvyControl, and that works perfectly—no lags or freezes there. The problem is that I'm working on a small LLM project and need the NVIDIA GPU to boost performance. However, whenever I switch back to the NVIDIA graphics, Ubuntu either freezes on the lock screen or a few minutes after I log in. Is there any way to fix this issue?

Make sure your drivers are correctly installed and set up. It might also be beneficial to look for help in specialized forums like Linux_Questions for more targeted advice!
Have you tried using Pop OS? They have an NVIDIA iso that’s Ubuntu-based and works great with NVIDIA hardware. Alternatively, Arch-based distros like Garuda Linux or Manjaro are known to handle NVIDIA cards really well. They might give you better stability and performance!
What driver version are you using for your video? Also, are you on X11 or Wayland? We need some more details about your dedicated GPU to really help out here!
Before diving deeper, have you checked if it might be a problem with your graphics card itself? Just a thought to consider!
You should definitely check out the Arch Wiki on NVIDIA and Optimus; they have some good troubleshooting guides that might help you resolve the freezing issue!
