Getting Started with AMD for High-End Gaming

I'm about to build a project PC with the following specs: Intel Xeon 14-core/28-thread CPU, GTX 1660 Super GPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB SSD, and a 500W 80+ Bronze PSU. While I know this setup isn't the most powerful, I'm eager to upgrade it piece by piece. Currently, I have an Intel i9 in my main rig, but I've heard that AMD might have better temperature management. Given that this new PC is smaller, airflow will be crucial. I'd love some recommendations on where to start if I want to explore AMD components for high-end gaming, especially considering I'll be purchasing parts gradually. I'm also just interested in learning more about AMD since I'm mainly familiar with Intel.

If you're looking to dive into AMD, I'd recommend starting with a Ryzen 9 7900X or even a 7800X. Pair that with an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT for a solid gaming experience. This combo provides great performance across the board and will keep your system temps in check. It's pretty straightforward math!

How does this compare, budget and performance wise, to an Nvidia setup?

If you want a total AMD experience, aim for a 7800X3D or a 9800X3D with an RX 7900 XT. This combo delivers fantastic performance. Just a heads up, AMD chips have been pretty efficient heat-wise, especially with their newer architecture.

Will this perform roughly as well as the NVIDIA options? Do I hurt my heat management going with an AMD chip and NVIDIA GPU?

Honestly, there's not much to learn when switching to AMD; it just varies by model. A lot of people have had good luck with them, and they've saved quite a bit in the long run. Personally, I’ve been on AMD for around 25 years and rarely faced issues. While the price gap is narrowing, I still feel AMD offers better value overall.

And you can still game fine at high settings?
