My son ordered a computer, but unfortunately, the GPU wasn't securely fastened during shipping. The heatsink, fan assembly, and the welds connecting it to the aluminum plate broke. I'm wondering if I could use a metal repair product, like JB-Weld, to fix the broken welds, then reapply thermal paste and remount it. He didn't fill out the warranty or shipping protection, so I don't think I'm able to go that route. Has anyone here dealt with similar repairs? I know replacements are available, but they can be quite costly.

Wow, that damage looks pretty severe. I strongly advise against using JB Weld for this kind of fix. Even without warranty, it might be best for you to reach out to the seller and see your options. Your safest bet might be to look for a replacement heatsink on eBay and hope there hasn’t been any damage to the GPU die itself.
If you could provide some pictures, that would help a lot! It's hard to understand the extent of the damage without seeing it.

I suggest contacting the company where you bought it first. They might have dealt with similar situations and can guide you on what to do next.

I'm considering testing my old GPU in the PCI slot first, then see if this damaged one can even POST.
