Has Anyone Successfully Used Teams or Zoom in Remote Desktop Solutions?

I'm looking for feedback on using Microsoft Teams or Zoom in remote desktop solutions. Typically, we use full laptops or desktops with these applications installed, but we're considering trials with different setups for our remote workforce. I've found that using these applications is more feasible with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), but I want to hear some real-world success stories or tips from those who have tried it.

Omnissa Horizon (formerly VMWare) integrates seamlessly with Teams thanks to a special setup. I’m not the one managing the VDI, but it's awesome how well it works. Just a heads up, though—there are a few quirks, like you can’t use custom backgrounds or see more than four participants at once unless you switch to 'together mode'. Generally, video and audio are solid, although there can be strange audio device issues that are usually fixable by restarting the horizon connection.

Using Citrix Server 2025 with FSLogix has worked fine for us. If you're on Server 2022, it performs adequately, but there can be some noticeable latency with webcam passthrough. For standard audio use, Teams works just fine.

I've found that Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) performs really well with Zoom and Teams. It's quite reliable!

Yeah, it can work pretty decently! If you're using Windows Server 2022, just make sure all the group policy objects (GPOs) are configured correctly to allow microphone and webcam passthrough. You might also want to set bandwidth limits to manage audio and video quality during RDP sessions. If it gets too messy, consider disabling cameras altogether and just stick with audio; it saves on resources for sure.

At my previous job, we implemented a Citrix plugin for Zoom that made a huge difference. It offered smooth camera and audio passthrough, making it feel as if you were on a regular desktop. That was a while ago, though, and I'm sure it has improved since then. For RDS, I didn’t have a great experience compared to what Citrix or Horizon offer.
