Having Trouble Installing Linux on My Old Atom PC

I'm facing issues trying to install Linux on my ASUS Eee PC, which has 1GB of RAM and an Atom CPU with Intel GMA 3150. It originally came with Windows 7 Starter, so I thought Linux would run fine on it. However, every time I attempt to install Linux Mint, the installation hangs right at the beginning. I also tried running Memtest86, but it won't boot at all. Can anyone share some solutions or suggestions?

Q4OS could be a good option for you. It runs on quite minimal specs - just a 500MHz CPU and 512MB RAM, plus it has a nice desktop environment called Trinity.

Make sure to choose a 32-bit version of Linux. Other installers won't even get started on your hardware. You might consider something lightweight like Puppy Linux, which is designed for low-resource systems.

Just a heads up, Linux Mint generally needs over 2GB of RAM. Based on what you've mentioned, your Atom processor is likely 64-bit capable, so you might want to check out alternatives that fit your requirements.

Consider trying AntiX Linux. Given the limited power of your device even back when it was released, lighter Linux distros will have better performance, although keep in mind that 1GB of RAM isn't a lot for modern apps, especially browsers.

I used to run one of those mini PCs! From what I've found online, it might be better to try Dam Small Linux or MX Linux since Mint requires at least 2GB of RAM.
