I've never installed Windows before, and I'm really struggling with this one. I downloaded the Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft (Win11_24H2_English_x64.iso) and used dd on MacOS to copy it onto an external SSD, which I formatted as MS-DOS (FAT). I also adjusted the BIOS to boot from the USB HDD first, but when I reboot, nothing happens. My hardware seems fine since I can boot Linux from the same USB port. Is there something specific I might be missing that's required for setting up the Windows installation?

Just copying the ISO to the drive won’t work for Windows. You need to make the USB drive bootable using something like the Microsoft Media Creation Tool or Rufus. For MacOS, look for a dedicated tool for creating bootable USB drives. That should help you set things up correctly!
But... why is that necessary? I thought that method worked for other OS installations. Anyway, I'll check out those tools. Thanks!
