I'm building my first PC and I'm looking to go with AM5. My budget is tight, so I'm trying to decide between the Ryzen 5 7600X and the R5 8600G. The 8600G is €35 cheaper and I'm curious if it's really that much worse than the 7600X. I've seen lots of comments recommending the 7600X, but the prices are pretty similar in some places. Any insights would be appreciated!

What will you primarily use this PC for? If it's mainly for gaming, the 8600G may not be the best choice due to its smaller L3 cache. If your budget isn't super tight, I would recommend looking into AM4 or LGA1700 options for lower-end setups. That said, it can depend on what games you're playing.
Are you planning to use a dedicated GPU with the 8600G? It's worth noting that this chipset has some limitations: it only supports PCIe 4.0, which might not be an issue now, but could become one later on. It also has fewer PCIe lanes for the GPU, which limits the total bandwidth. Plus, it has half the L3 cache compared to the 7600X, which can impact gaming performance. Some users have reported overheating due to thermal paste issues, too. If you're only saving €35, the 7600X is probably the better option, especially for gaming.
Yeah, I planned on adding a GPU, but the integrated graphics looked tempting for now. Prices on GPUs are a bit high, but both CPUs are on discount right now.
In some places, the 9600X is very close in price as well, but it really varies by region. The 7600X is about 17% faster in 1080p gaming compared to the 8600G, so if you're looking for performance, I'd lean towards the 7600X.
Thanks for the info! Unfortunately, the 9600X is about €20-30 more here.
If the €35 matters to you, then go for the 8600G. But if you can afford to spend a little more, the 7600X is the better choice. If you save that extra cash, you might be able to upgrade your RAM or SSD size later on. Honestly, for most modern games, the 8600G should still perform decently.
Thank you for the advice!
I'm actually not too constrained now. I'll be using the PC for CAD work and gaming.
