Hey everyone! I just got an old, dusty PC from my girlfriend, but it's pretty unreliable. I've managed to save up around $500 for a budget build, but since I'm completely new to building PCs, I'm not sure where to start. Should I buy used parts or stick to "as good as new" options, like unopened or refurbished items? I've been browsing the market for a couple of weeks now, looking at different brands and models, but I'm feeling really lost. I'd appreciate any advice other than just telling me to watch a tutorial. Thanks for your help!

To get the best advice, let’s clarify a few things first:
1. What's your main goal for this PC? Are you aiming for gaming, work, or something else?
2. Do you already have a monitor, keyboard, or other peripherals?
3. Are you open to mostly buying used parts to stay within your budget?
4. Where are you located?
In general, I recommend steering clear of Seagate as a hard drive brand, but Western Digital is often revered. Also, always invest in a new power supply if you can; don’t risk a used one.
1. My main need is for work, but I'd like to play some easy games like Minecraft and Civ6. 2. I already have all the peripherals needed. 3. I'm totally okay with used parts; I can't afford to be picky. 4. I'm in Germany, with around 500€ saved up, which is approximately $500.
