My daughter accidentally dropped her iPhone into a lake today. We bought her a new phone, but we're stuck trying to set it up because she changed her iCloud password to something she can't remember. We've gone through the usual steps on the Apple site to recover it, but nothing is working out. We can't use the text message option because her old phone is at the bottom of the lake. Trying to use her email isn't an option either since it's not set up on any other device. Lastly, the credit card associated with her account is one I authorized her to use, and the number is different, which complicates things since we can't access her Apple Wallet. I submitted a recovery request, but it's frustrating because they'll email her about it, and we don't have access to that right now. I'm currently chatting with support since the phones are closed. Does anyone have any tips on how to work around this?

If you can get the phone number active on another device, you could use the Apple Support app to reset the password quickly. It sounds like you're stuck in recovery mode right now, which is definitely frustrating. Just make sure she doesn’t have any other trusted devices for reset options.
Have you thought about contacting your daughter's phone provider to get her number transferred to the new SIM? That can sometimes help with the password reset process. I did that when I was in a similar situation, and it worked out well for me!
I actually did contact them, but I think I might have waited too long. I submitted an account recovery request which might take a bit before it’s finished. But now the phone number is transferred, so hopefully, things will work out soon!

You're right, she doesn't have any other devices. I only realized I could transfer the eSIM after the recovery process started, so now we just have to be patient until that’s over.
