Help! My Laptop’s Performance Dropped After Running a Command

I have a laptop with a 512 GB SSD and 4 GB of RAM, and it was running really smoothly thanks to some optimization my friend did for me. Initially, my RAM usage was low—only about 5% when idle and around 13% while running a program. The hard drive was pretty efficient too, staying above 20% usage, and my battery could last up to 4 hours. But then I made a mistake. In an attempt to speed things up even more, I ran a PowerShell command that I found online. Ever since, my RAM usage skyrocketed to around 60% when idle and jumps to 90% with just one program open. Now, my battery drains rapidly, lasting only an hour instead of four. I regret using that tool and want to restore my laptop's performance back to how my friend set it up, but I can't reach him for help. What can I do?

Oh no, that’s frustrating! Did you happen to make any backups while your friend was helping you? If not, you're likely looking at a full system wipe. That command might have messed with system files significantly. If Adobe and other programs aren't working now, it's definitely affected your setup. A fresh install after backing everything up seems like the best route.

It sounds like you might need to consider a full reinstall of Windows, especially since you don't have a backup to restore from. Make sure to back up your data first! Then do a fresh install to clear everything out and get things running smoothly again. You’ll want to wipe the hard drive thoroughly to eliminate any remnants of what that command did. Good luck!

Sorry to hear you're dealing with this! Without a backup, your options are limited. A clean install is probably your safest bet; it will wipe everything and start fresh. Just remember to save your important files first, and possibly jot down a list of the applications you want to reinstall later.
