Help! My Lian Li A3 Case Keeps Shocking Me

Hey everyone! I recently switched my setup from a Deepcool Macube 110 to a Lian Li A3 mATX case, but I've run into a serious safety concern. I've been shocked by the metal on the case several times while it's plugged in. The shock happens when I touch different parts such as the metal case itself, the DisplayPort/HDMI outlets, and even the USB ports. It feels like an electrical tingle or bite. I suspect it might be caused by a pinched wire since the A3 case is quite compact, but I'm not sure where to start looking. Has anyone experienced this with a smaller case? Is my case potentially live? I'm worried about damaging my components or worse, myself. Oh, and for context, I'm using a non-modular PSU, which means a bunch of leftover cables are just tied up below it. Also, my motherboard doesn't have a USB Type C a-key port since it's an older 450M model. Thanks in advance for any advice!

First off, try to figure out if it’s a static shock or if your case is actually live. A static shock feels like a quick spark, while a live feed means you'd get zapped consistently every time you touch it. If it’s the latter, it might be a fault in your PSU causing the case to become energized. If the shock feels more like a light annoyance than a serious zap, it’s likely a static issue. Since static can be worse in dry environments, check your shoes and socks too!

I plugged my PC directly into the wall instead of the extension, and it seems like the shocks stopped! It's still just a two-prong setup, but at least it feels safer now. It definitely wasn’t a serious zap, just a small annoyment.

It sounds like you might just need to plug your setup into a grounded outlet. This can really help with any electrical issues. I know that's a challenge in some places though!

I live in an old house too, so I totally get your concern. If grounding isn't an option, there might be other solutions to explore. It didn’t happen with your Macube case, right?
