Help! My New PSU Isn’t Powering My PC—What Could Be Wrong?

I recently upgraded my GPU to a 5070ti from a 4060, and I also bought a new 850W Asus Thor Platinum 2 power supply to support it—my old 750W Corsair PSU was working fine, but I wanted to future-proof my setup. After disconnecting all the cables from my old PSU and hooking everything up to the new one, I noticed I got absolutely no power at first. No motherboard lights or anything. Then, after switching to the new cables that came with the PSU, the motherboard lights did turn on, but when I pressed the power button, the system only ran for a second before shutting off. It would only power back on if I unplugged and plugged the PSU back in.

I eventually switched all the cables to the new ones, except for one PCIe cable because the PSU didn't provide enough for my GPU's requirements. After that, the system powered on seemingly okay, but as I was loading Minecraft, the PC just died and wouldn't turn back on—no lights at all! I'm super frustrated and need your help. Do I just need another PCIe cable from Asus? Is it possible that my old house doesn't supply enough power for the new GPU? How can I check? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure you use **all** the cables that came with your new PSU. Each PSU has unique cable configurations, and using a mix can cause problems. If you're short on cables, reach out to Asus for the correct ones you need. Otherwise, you might risk damaging components. And yeah, pray everything’s okay! If anything does seem burnt, it might mean a replacement is necessary.
