Help! My Old iPod Seems to Be Broken – What Can I Do?

I recently dug out my old iPod, which I think is a Nano, and tried to connect it to my Mac Pro. Unfortunately, it didn't show up in iTunes or Finder. Instead, it's stuck flashing between three screens: "Restore with iTunes," "Do not disconnect," and the Apple logo. I really need some guidance on what to do next!

First, try using a different cable to connect your iPod. Some cables only provide power and don't transfer data, so you want to make sure you're using one that supports syncing.

What kind of cable should I be looking for? I'm currently using a 30-pin to USB-A.
