Hey everyone, I'm having a tough time with my desktop PC that's been restarting frequently. It started crashing to a black screen and booting up repeatedly. At times, it would take a break for a day before acting up again, but now it's gotten worse and mostly just loops back from the BIOS/login screen. Sometimes, when I try to access the BIOS configuration using F12, it crashes too. Here's a list of everything I've tried to fix the issue:
- Fresh Windows install (keeping my files)
- Uninstalled GPU driver using DDU and then reinstalled it
- Tested my RAM with Windows services and tried each stick one at a time
- Ran the PC without the GPU
- Replaced the power supply unit (PSU)
- Removed a recent SSD installed last year
- Updated the BIOS
- Reset the BIOS to default settings, including removing the battery and holding the power button while it's unplugged
- Replaced the BIOS battery
- Ran a full virus scan
- Double-checked all cables
Here are the specs worthy of note:
**GPU:** GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 Ti EAGLE OC 8G
**Old PSU:** Corsair CX750M (refurbished)
**Motherboard:** GIGABYTE Z790 UD AC LGA 1700
**RAM:** TeamGroup T-FORCE VULCAN 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000MHz
**CPU:** Intel Core i5-13500

If your PC crashes while under stress, it often points to a hardware issue. Start looking at your power supply and memory. Try removing one RAM stick at a time to see if that helps. Also, test your GPU by using integrated graphics.
Could overheating be an issue? You might want to reapply thermal paste and check if your heat sink is properly seated. Even if there aren't heat spikes, it's worth a shot!
I’d definitely keep an eye on your power supply; it feels like a likely culprit. But diagnosing without a second PSU might be tricky. Have you tried a different one?
I did swap to my old PSU, but it didn't change anything. Still bootlooping.
I haven't tried that yet, but I'll pick up some thermal paste tomorrow and give it a go.
