I'm trying to enjoy a day off playing some games with my girlfriend, specifically 'Dark and Darker', but I keep hitting a wall. Whenever I try to launch any of the Steam games we want to play, I keep getting an error message that says, 'Game could not run properly. Please make sure DirectX runtime is installed.' The thing is, I've already confirmed that DirectX is installed and up to date. I've also tried restarting my computer, reinstalling the game, ensuring everything is up to date, reinstalling Steam, and even doing a clean boot. Plus, I attempted to run the game on a previous version of DirectX. Nothing seems to work, and I'm really hoping someone here can help me out!

Have you tried running the 'dxdiag' tool? It might help you check for issues with DirectX, and you can look for any errors that might show up there. It's a good way to track down what's wrong!
You might want to verify the game's integrity through Steam. Sometimes files can get corrupted, and this step can fix it. It's a quick way to troubleshoot without needing a full reinstall!
I actually did that too, I forgot to list it in my original post. I've also been trying to contact Windows support, but it feels like they're making it really difficult to talk to a real person.
Have you tried right-clicking on the game’s executable file and running it as an administrator? It might just help bypass some permissions issue that's keeping it from launching properly. Worth a shot since you're stuck!
I ran dxdiag before and it shows I'm on DX12, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I should check or do to fix the issue.
