I've been trying to upgrade my PC's CPU from a Ryzen 7 2700X to a Ryzen 9 5950X. My system specs are an MSI B450 Tomahawk motherboard, 32 GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM, a Gigabyte RTX 2080ti GPU, and I'm running Windows 11. I've read that the B450 motherboard should work with the 5950X, and I've already updated the BIOS before the swap. However, my PC won't post at all with the new CPU installed – the post lights on the motherboard stay red, indicating a CPU issue. I've double-checked the CPU seating and found no bent pins. Is there something else I might have missed before considering returning the CPU?

Before making any returns, ensure your power supply is also sufficient for the new CPU, just in case it’s not providing enough power. Sometimes, a stronger CPU can need a bit more juice, and that could cause boot issues as well.
It sounds like you've done a lot of the right things already! I’d recommend checking if your motherboard really has the latest BIOS version required for the Ryzen 9 5950X. Even if you updated it to the latest version that’s a beta, sometimes reverting to the latest stable version can help with compatibility issues. You might need to put your old CPU back in to switch the BIOS back if necessary.
