I recently received an IBM ThinkPad R51 from a friend, but none of the USB ports seem to be functioning. I've tried connecting a mouse, keyboard, and even a USB stick, but all they do is light up without transferring any data. I've already uninstalled the drivers and checked the hardware components, but I'm at a loss for a solution. Can anyone help?

It sounds like a frustrating issue! Have you checked the Device Manager to see if there are any alerts or problems listed for the USB ports? Sometimes, there might be missing drivers or conflicts that could cause the ports not to work. If you see yellow triangles, that might indicate an issue.
If the Device Manager looks fine, it might be worth trying a hard reset on the laptop. Remove the battery and unplug the power for a few minutes, then reconnect everything and see if that helps. Sometimes, hardware issues can be resolved this way.
