Hey everyone! I was using Windows 11 version 22H2, and I got a notification that my version reached end of life, so I attempted to update. After the update, I encountered a blue screen of death, but restarting my PC seemed to fix it—until it indicated that the update had failed. After another reboot, I ended up with a black screen, and now restarting doesn't help at all.
Since then, I've tried several things:
- Booting in recovery mode through the HP BIOS, which didn't work.
- Attempting to open Task Manager and using Windows Run, but neither worked.
- I considered switching to Linux, so I tried booting from a flash drive with elementary OS, but hit another black screen. Then, I switched to Ubuntu, again leading to a black screen.
- I also managed to boot Ubuntu in safe graphics mode, but although I could input text, I got no response.
- Lastly, I remembered I have a second hard drive with Pop!_OS on it, but even that only leads to a gray screen after waiting for 20 minutes.
Does anyone have advice on what I should try next? I also think I have a backup from around March and a USB drive with Ubuntu Server, but I'm lost on what to do now!

First off, I'd recommend restoring from your backup if it’s available. It seems like your update really messed things up. If you can’t access the Windows recovery options, try booting from a recovery USB when you turn on your PC. If you had a good backup, that should solve a lot of issues!
I think the CPU is a Ryzen 4600G. But how do I restore from the backup since it doesn’t show in the boot manager?
