I'm a newbie trying to repurpose an old HP monitor I have lying around. I still have the original cables which include a DVI-D dual link, a USB 2.0 Type B male, and a DisplayPort male. I've checked the types of connections on the monitor, but I'm stuck because the ends of the cables don't fit any of the ports available on my LG laptop. I couldn't figure out how to share a picture of the monitor's ports, but I would appreciate any help! Thanks in advance!

You can use an HDMI to DisplayPort or HDMI to DVI cable to connect your laptop to the monitor. Just make sure to check what kind of output your laptop has!
Looks like you might need an HDMI to DVI adapter, and then you can use any standard DVI cable to make the connection. Also, if you can provide a picture of the monitor's ports, that would help clarify things!
Just from the ports you described, you should be able to find compatible cables or adapters fairly easily!
I see you have a couple of photos. From what I can tell, you likely have HDMI on your laptop side. If that's the case, a simple HDMI to HDMI cable might just do the trick! Also, searching the model number of your monitor online will usually give you all the port specifications you need.
Thanks for the tip! I'll look up the model number and see what ports it supports!
Definitely a good idea! Manuals and specs can make things much clearer.
It really depends on what ports your laptop has. If it has a mini-DisplayPort, you can adapt that to full-size DisplayPort. Otherwise, if it's HDMI, you could also use a proper cable to adapt that to your monitor's connections. If you have an older laptop with VGA, there are adapters for that too!

It's great you're looking for a picture to help. Sometimes it makes troubleshooting much easier!
