Hey everyone! I'm currently living with my parents while I prepare for college, and I recently purchased a prebuilt PC to game with my friends. However, I'm struggling to get it online. My room is on the second floor, farthest from the modem which is in the living room. My parents only want to stick with their current ISP, Optimum, even though it doesn't provide great signal, and they don't want to fix any connectivity issues. I attempted to use an Ethernet cable, but the built-in Ethernet wiring in my house is a mess – many cables are either disconnected or burnt. I even considered getting my own modem and router, but I'm not sure if it's worth the investment. I've heard about Wi-Fi boosters and powerline adapters, but I'm skeptical about them. Any ideas on how to tackle this situation? I'm a bit clueless when it comes to tech, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

You should definitely consider getting a mesh Wi-Fi system. It would help improve the signal throughout your house and cover your room without needing to run any messy wires. Plus, they're pretty easy to set up!
Thanks for the suggestion! I've heard about mesh systems but wasn't sure if they really worked. Sounds like it could be a good solution!
