How Can I Increase My Monitor’s Refresh Rate Beyond 100Hz?

I'm having trouble adjusting my monitor's refresh rate. Even though it's capable of 180Hz, I can only set it to a maximum of 100Hz. I've confirmed I'm using the DisplayPort connection, but I'm not sure why it won't go higher. Does anyone have suggestions to help me get the maximum refresh rate?

First, try checking the monitor's display settings. Sometimes adjusting those can let you bump the refresh rate higher. Also, make sure to disable V-Sync and any adaptive refresh options since they can limit your max rate.

I looked into the display settings and was able to change it from 60Hz to 100Hz, but I can't push it any further.

If you're using an Nvidia graphics card, you should open the Nvidia Control Panel and create a custom resolution. You can set your desired resolution and refresh rate, provided your monitor supports it. By the way, which monitor do you have?

I tried the custom setting, but it made my screen go black and reset back to 100Hz. Is that a sign of a hardware issue?

Your GPU, monitor, cable, and drivers all need to support the refresh rate you're aiming for. Also, make sure to load the monitor's INF file in Windows if needed. Remember, 4K at 180Hz is a lot different from 1080p at that rate, so check if everything is compatible. Some monitors have specific settings that need to be adjusted to enable higher refresh rates, like overclocking or V-Sync settings.

I managed to set it to 120Hz, but any attempt at going higher causes the monitor to shut off. Looks like I might need a better GPU!
