I've got an old Motorola G9 Play just sitting around, and I want to make it useful again by trying to install a Linux distro on it. I've checked out a few mobile distros but noticed that many only support certain devices. Can anyone recommend a Linux version that might work with my Motorola G9 Play?

LineageOS 22.2 is available for your Motorola. If you're specifically looking for a true GNU/Linux experience, you might have to create your own build, though! So just keep that in mind.
You might want to check out GrapheneOS to see if it’s compatible with your Motorola G9 Play. Another good option is /e/ OS, which focuses on privacy. LineageOS is also a solid choice, especially if you want to play around with a GSI image and see what works. Honestly, you’ll probably want to dive into the XDA Forums for more detailed guidance; there's a lot of know-how there about modifying Android devices. Just remember, flashing isn’t always straightforward, so be prepared for a few hiccups along the way. Good luck!
I believe LineageOS has a build for the Motorola G9 Play. You can find it [here](https://download.lineageos.org/devices/guamp/builds). It’s a degoogled ROM, which is pretty neat if you’re looking to reduce dependency on Google services!
Just a heads up, since you mentioned making that old phone useful, I’ve got to say that GNU/Linux on phones isn’t always the most practical solution. It can be challenging to get it running smoothly. But have you looked into options like Maemo or SailfishOS? They could potentially bring some life back to that device!
Maemo and SailfishOS can be interesting alternatives if you're looking for something different! They'll definitely give you a unique experience.
