Hey everyone! I have an interview in just three days for a full stack tech leader position, where I'll need to design a system, create both front-end and back-end architecture, decide on the tech stack, and work with the cloud team to deploy solutions. I have years of experience with Java, Spring Boot, SQL, JPA, MongoDB, and REST on the back-end, while my front-end experience includes 3-4 years of JavaScript, 1 year of ReactJS, and some time with Angular and older frameworks.
They haven't specified what stack they prefer, so I plan to pitch Spring Boot, SQL, and React along with either REST or GraphQL for the integration. A few of my concerns include my limited cloud and front-end knowledge, plus I've never held a team leader role before, although I have experience with design patterns and creating small projects. I really want to take on this challenge, so I'm here asking for advice: What should I study before my interview? Do you have any recommendations for resources or should I focus on soft skills as well? My prep plan includes refreshing React and a cloud platform, studying basic Scrum management, and practicing typical interview questions. Anyone been in a similar situation or have tips?

Focus on becoming comfortable with the tools you’re less familiar with, like AWS or Kubernetes, and consider speaking to how you plan to overcome your weaknesses in those areas. In interviews, it’s perfectly fine to acknowledge where you need improvement while showing your willingness to learn and adapt. Just make sure to highlight your strong points, too!
You’re certainly not the only one feeling the pressure! Remember that soft skills can be just as important as technical knowledge, especially for a leadership role. Practice discussing how you've helped colleagues in the past and how you approach project design. It could be helpful to set up a mock interview with a friend or mentor to get comfortable with articulating your ideas.
Starting to prep just three days before is definitely a tough spot! Make sure to focus on the key technologies mentioned in the job description. Research the company and their tech products, as this can really help you tailor your answers during the interview. Also, brushing up on your leadership skills is crucial—companies want to see that you can manage and inspire your team even if you haven’t held a formal title yet.
