How Can I Reduce Power Usage for My Gaming Desktop?

Hey everyone! I used to game in a different setup with lots of extension cords to avoid tripping my circuit breaker, but now I'm mostly using my laptop and PS5 in my room while waiting to build a new gaming PC. My housemates are not too happy about all the cords I have lying around, but I try to keep things neat. To really eliminate the need for so many cords, I'd need to hire an electrician to install more outlets, which isn't in my budget right now.

I'm planning to get at least an RTX 5070 for the new build, but I'm looking to keep power consumption low—similar to what my laptop and PS5 use. Currently, I have an AC unit, a TV, and books speakers running alongside my other devices. I want to find ways to reduce overall power usage so I won't have to plug the AC or heater into an extension cord from the kitchen. Any tips or advice? Thanks!

The RTX 5070 is a pretty efficient GPU, so you should be good there. You might want to check out a power supply calculator, like the one from MSI, to estimate your PC's power needs based on the components you plan to use. Just plug your expected parts in, and it’ll give you a rough idea of total consumption.

So mainly focus on the power supply? I have a 1000-watt gold PSU that's about 15 years old. I think it has a single rail setup, and I've heard it could be a power hog. It worked fine for my first build, but maybe I should just get a newer one?
