How Can I Remove the Previous Owner’s Apple ID from an Old iPhone 5s?

I recently found an iPhone 5s while going through some old belongings. It belonged to a family member who has passed away. The phone doesn't have a lock-screen passcode, but it's still signed in to their Apple ID with Find My iPhone enabled. I'd like to erase the old messages, apps, and personal information, then use it as a simple digital camera and for fun with friends. Is there a legitimate way to reset it and remove the previous owner's account?

This phone is protected by Activation Lock. Erasing it through the settings or restoring it with a computer will not remove the Apple ID requirement while Find My iPhone is enabled. The previous owner would need to remove the device from their Apple account, or you’d need to contact Apple with valid proof of ownership and any documentation they require. Third-party bypass tools are unreliable, may compromise the phone, and aren’t a legitimate way around the security feature. Without account removal or proof of ownership, it can’t be set up for normal use.
