I've been having a frustrating issue with my cat jumping on the power button of my computer. Since my setup is on a slanted surface, the top of the computer is a perfect footrest for my cat. Unfortunately, this results in my computer trying to shut down multiple times a day, which interrupts any game I'm playing, like Helldivers 2, and disrupts my multiplayer matches. I usually see a warning window asking if I really want to shut down, but just pressing the button still causes games to close unexpectedly. I've tried putting a hat on the computer to deter my cat, but that hasn't helped as they're still able to hit the button. Is there a way to prevent this shutdown action when the power button is pressed?

Another cool solution is to buy a flip-to-open camera lens cover and stick it over the power button. You can keep it closed and only open it when you actually want to shut down! They come with an adhesive ring and are super cheap.
I actually just set my power button to 'Do Nothing' and then I hit Alt-F4 repeatedly until all my programs are closed, which prompts for shutdown after that. Just press 'Enter' when you're ready.
Just head into the power settings and set the power button action to 'Do Nothing'. It'll save you a lot of hassle.
I love that you tried putting a hat on your computer! What kind of hat was it though?
You can change the power button action in the power settings to 'Sleep'. The downside is that for a full shutdown, you'll have to select it from the start menu instead.
You could also set the action to 'Do Nothing'. That way, your cat would have to learn to use the shutdown option from the GUI instead.
True, but even 'Sleep' might still mess up your game connections. 'Do Nothing' is definitely a smarter choice for keeping your cat from causing mayhem.

That sounds like a great idea! I’ll look for one that fits well. Just worried the adhesive might wear off if my cat keeps pushing it.
