How can I tell if my laptop’s sound card is no longer working?

I recently had a crash on my laptop, and now I'm unable to hear any sound from the built-in speakers. However, sound plays perfectly through my Bluetooth headphones. Everything seems to be functioning normally, and the BIOS diagnostics indicated that the audio is healthy. I'm starting to suspect that I might need to get an external sound card, but I'm also wondering if the internal sound card could still be fine and I'm just overlooking something. Any advice?

Have you thought about reinstalling or updating your audio driver? Sometimes the issue can be solved just by refreshing the drivers.

Updating your drivers is definitely a good step. It's worth checking for any system updates or checking the manufacturer’s website for the latest drivers too. Sometimes, those unknown issues can come from outdated software.

I had a similar issue once, and I found that different audio outputs could yield different results. Try checking the headphone jack to see if it works, but if you're only hearing white noise, that might indicate a problem.

Have you tried using the 3.5mm headphone jack? Sometimes that can give you a clue about the sound card's status if there's one available on your device.
