This morning, my kid's iPhone 15 stopped responding to touch, so we can't shut it down with the slider. Unfortunately, there are no recent backups, and I was considering temporarily hooking up a digitizer from an iPhone 14, but I need to shut it down first. I've tried the usual volume up, volume down, and power button combo for 10-15 seconds, but it just resets the phone instead of turning it off. No matter what I do—whether I release the side button early or hold it down longer—it's always the same. Does anyone know how to just turn this thing off?

You can actually disconnect the battery if you open the back. It doesn't matter if the phone is on—you'll need to do that before hooking up any screen. This is a reliable way to power down a phone that isn’t responding. Just be careful not to connect the wrong screen when the parts arrive!
If you manage to take off the screen from the frame, disconnect the battery first to ensure safety. It’s the best practice before making any repairs or changes. Just make sure you wait for your new screen to avoid issues with incorrect parts!
I’d love to be able to turn it off first, though! It’s so frustrating.

So I can open it up without worrying about the phone being on? That’s good to know!
