I recently saw that Borderlands 4 specs suggest having at least 12GB of VRAM. It got me thinking about what to do for my next GPU upgrade. Should I stick with the 9070 XT that has 16GB of VRAM, or should I go for the 7900 XT with 20GB? With games becoming more demanding and requiring more VRAM, I'm worried about how long 16GB will actually be adequate. What do you all think?

It all boils down to what games you play and what settings you prefer. If you're gaming at 1080p, you might be okay with 12GB right now, but for 1440p or higher, 16GB is a much safer bet. In the long run, 16GB should be the target for longevity.
Look, at the end of the day, if you’re not gaming at 4K, 12GB should keep you afloat. But if you want to max out settings and resolutions, 16GB is going to be the better choice. Just know your gaming style and adjust accordingly!
I feel like I keep getting stuck at 1080p since 8GB cards are still around. But yeah, I’d prefer to get something with 16GB for sure.
Totally! 16GB is going to be safer for longevity, especially with all of those AAA titles coming out.
Given that even the upcoming RTX 5080 only has 16GB, you will probably be okay for a while. However, keep in mind that as tech advances, we might start seeing some games needing more VRAM, especially as they get optimized for newer hardware.
For sure! Developers will always aim to cater to the latest hardware. But people still running on 6GB cards need to keep that in mind.
Honestly, I think 16GB of VRAM should serve you well for the next few years. By the time you actually need more, the 9070 XT will be aging anyway. Plus, it’s a solid card with the latest tech like FSR 4, which should help extend its lifespan in terms of performance.
FSR 4 hasn’t really taken off yet though. I feel like not many new games are adopting it, which makes me wonder how effective it really is.
That's true, but it seems like you can still get decent performance without cranking everything to max. Sometimes, sticking to a lower resolution or settings does the trick.
If you're buying a new GPU, I'd say go for the 16GB as a minimum. And with heavy modding or playing demanding titles, 20GB would definitely provide better peace of mind. It’s all dependent on whether you want to future-proof your setup or play it safe for now.
That’s the cycle we’re in – always needing to keep up with the latest! But hey, I think 16GB should last for several years.
True, but also remember that by the time the bigger VRAM cards are common, they'll probably already have new models out.
Exactly! If you're planning on pushing things to 4K, then 16GB is pretty much a requirement. It feels like that’s the sweet spot for a while.
