Hey everyone, my power supply is starting to fail and making some strange noises, plus my PC has shut off a few times because the fan isn't spinning. I'm looking to replace my current 850W PSU and need some advice on what wattage I actually need. Here are my PC specs:
- AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU (120W, 8-Core)
- Arctic Freezer 34 eSports DUO cooling solution
- Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5 RAM
- MSI PRO B650M-A WiFi motherboard
- ASUS RTX 4070 12GB graphics card
- Various storage drives including a 2TB NVMe SSD
I ran my setup through a PSU load calculator, which estimated I need around 430W. Would a PSU between 500W and 650W work for me, or should I aim higher, especially since I'm on a tight budget? Also, I had a monitor go out when I turned on my PC with the faulty PSU—could this be related? Thanks for any help!

Yeah, you can definitely go with a 500W-650W if the calculator says that's sufficient, but I’d suggest aiming for 650W to have some breathing room. You don’t want your PSU maxed out all the time. Plus, it can help with efficiency as well.
I'd say you only really need a 650W, but if you want some extra headroom, going for a 750W or even 850W might be best, especially if you think of future upgrades or overclocking. Having a little buffer can help prolong the life of your PSU and keep it from running at full capacity all the time.
For long-term use, I recommend going for a 1000W Gold-rated PSU. It might be overkill now, but if you upgrade in the future or add extra components, it’ll have you covered without stressing out the unit too much. Just my two cents!

What’s the reason behind wanting a 750W? Is it just for extreme use or for overclocking?
