Hi everyone! I recently built a new gaming PC using an MSI B850 Tomahawk motherboard, aiming for a quiet setup. I'm using all be quiet! fans along with a be quiet! AIO cooler, and I've managed to set everything up to run silently during regular use. However, every time I power on the PC or wake it from sleep, all the fans ramp up to 100% for a few seconds before they calm down.
My previous motherboard didn't do this, so I'm curious:
• Is this just an MSI issue?
• Is it a standard POST or safety check?
• Can I disable or shorten this in the BIOS or via software?
• Are there particular motherboard brands that don't have this issue?

It’s pretty common for fans to spike to 100% as a safety measure during startup or wake. It helps ensure that they get enough power to start spinning without stalling. I’ve noticed this on most of my computers too, especially during boot-up.
I have the MSI B850 Tomahawk with be quiet! SilentWings 4 and I don’t experience this fan spike. Are you using the 4-pin variant of your fans? It might make a difference!
That’s strange! I have an X870 Tomahawk and my fans don’t do that at all. I’d think the BIOS settings should be somewhat similar. You might want to check your BIOS fan settings to see if there’s an option that might help.
This isn’t just an MSI thing; it’s actually pretty typical behavior. I totally get your frustration, though – a noisy PC can be really annoying. For a quieter experience, I recommend looking for parts with lower RPM fans and checking out reviews to find what works best.

It drives me insane every time I wake my PC up!
