How to Run Windows Games on Linux Mint?

Hey everyone! I'm new to Linux Mint and have been using it for everyday tasks. Recently, I wanted to try gaming on it. I downloaded a game, but when I opened the file, it was just a jumble of folders and files—no .exe file like I'm used to on Windows. After a bit of research, I found out that I need a program called Wine to run Windows applications. I went ahead and installed Wine, but when I read the ReadMe file, it mentioned running a command. I have no idea where to run this command, and I spent over two hours trying to figure it out. Can someone please explain how to get this set up in simple terms? Thanks a lot!

To game on Linux, you might want to try using Steam with Proton instead of Wine. It's designed specifically for running Windows games on Linux and makes the process a lot easier. Just add your game to Steam, turn on compatibility settings, and you should be good to go! It's a bit simpler than messing with Wine directly.

If you downloaded a Windows game, using Steam with Proton is definitely the way to go. It’s optimized for gaming and simplifies everything. Just make sure to add the game to your Steam library and enable compatibility mode in the settings. If you run into any issues with a specific title, let us know!

You might also want to check out Lutris, which is another option similar to Steam’s Proton. It helps run Windows games on Linux by managing the Wine configurations for you. Just add your games and it handles the setup! If you need detailed assistance on anything, feel free to ask.

You could use Wine if you want, but honestly, I suggest aiming for Proton via Steam. It’s much more straightforward for gaming. For your game, Rust, just see if you can run it via Steam, but be wary of servers that don't require Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) since it complicates things on Linux. Happy gaming!
