I just got a new M.2 SSD and I need some clarification on a few things. I heard that I should do a fresh Windows install on it, but I'm not sure if it should be my C drive or if it can be any drive letter. Also, if it has to be C and I replace my existing C drive with the new SSD, does that new SSD automatically become C? Can I then put my old drive in another M.2 slot, or should I wait to do that until after installing Windows on the new SSD?

Installing Windows on your new SSD isn't always necessary unless your current drive is really slow or failing. What's your existing drive like? If it's in decent health, you might not need to switch.
The drive you install Windows on will always be your C drive, you can't change that. If you swap out your old C drive for the new one, it'll become the new C drive automatically. Once that's done, you can put your old drive in another M.2 slot and assign it a different letter if you're not using it for Windows anymore. It's pretty straightforward!
