I'm about to build a new PC, but with the crazy prices on RAM, I'm unsure if 16GB of either DDR4 or DDR5 will be sufficient for running competitive FPS games and AAA titles. How much RAM do I really need for a good gaming experience?

Generally, 16GB is enough for most gaming needs, especially if you close unnecessary background apps. However, if you're looking for a comfortable experience and plan to multitask, 32GB is the sweet spot. It ensures you can run games along with Discord or other applications without any hiccups. It really depends on your usage habits!

But what's running in the background that uses up that much RAM? I thought 8GB could still work fine in some cases.
