Is 61% SSD Health a Cause for Concern After 5 Years?

I've been using a Samsung QVO 870 1TB SATA SSD as my primary install drive for almost 5 years, and I just checked its health—it's at 61%. It's been getting a bit slow when booting up and launching programs, but it's otherwise functioning fine. Should I start thinking about replacing it? Maybe it's time to utilize that unused NVMe slot?

Honestly, you don’t have to freak out just yet, but I'd suggest considering a replacement sometime this year. It's up to you when to upgrade, but getting ahead of any slowdowns could save you some headaches later!

Sounds good, I’ve been eyeing some options! Thinking of going for either a 1TB or 2TB WD Blue M.2—should help with the extra space too!

Have you checked how full it is? Being over 61% full can start to affect performance. Plus, in my view, it’s ideal to use TLC drives for booting rather than QVO drives since they’re better for longer-term use.

It’s about 85% full roughly.

How did you check the SSD’s health? That’s usually a good first step!

I used CrystalDiskInfo to check it.

I didn't realize SSDs lose performance due to heavy use like that. That's something to keep in mind when choosing what to use as your main drive.

QVO drives aren't really meant to be the main OS drives, just so you know. They’re better suited for lower-demand storage situations.
