Is 750W Enough for an RTX 5080 FE and 9800x3D?

I'm currently using a 750W PSU (MSI MAG 750GL 80+ Gold non-modular) with a 4080 Super and AMD 9800x3D. I'm considering an upgrade to an RTX 5080 FE for about $140. Do you think 750W is sufficient for this setup? Are there any power supply recommendations?

Officially, Nvidia suggests an 850W PSU, especially for the 5080. It's a minor bump up from the 4080 Super, so keep that in mind!

I heard it can potentially reach near 4090 levels with overclocking, though?

Yeah, a 750W PSU can technically handle it, but I wouldn't recommend going that route. You might be pushing it.

Is the price worth it if the performance upgrade isn't significant? Even though it's the Founder's Edition, I thought it would overclock better than the 4080 Super!

I’d suggest at least 850W for peace of mind. 1000W would be even better for headroom if you're planning future upgrades.

An 850W PSU is the way to go!

You can also check out PCPartPicker or Newegg's power supply calculator to see recommendations based on your build.

Your 750W PSU should work as the 5080 FE spikes around 420W. Just try not to go overboard with additional components like fans or cooling systems.

Awesome, that reassures me! I've got a simple Afterburner setup. Should I keep the power and temp limits at default?
