Is an AIO Cooler Enough for My New Build?

I'm building a PC and my setup comprises an AMD Ryzen 7 9700X processor, a Corsair Nautilus 240 ARGB AIO cooler, and an AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics card. A friend suggested I should have gone with a 360mm cooler instead, but I went with what my local PC builder recommended, and now I'm feeling uncertain. I can't change the order since it's locked, and I'm hoping to play Dota at 144Hz on a 2K display with decent performance. Am I making a mistake choosing this AIO cooler?

You shouldn't worry too much. The Ryzen 7 9700X can be cooled just fine even with a budget air cooler. Companies like Thermalright make great products that are way more affordable. Your friend's advice might be a bit overkill unless you're planning on overclocking or pushing your CPU hard all the time. You're set for Dota, for sure!

Honestly, I think you'll be fine with the AIO. The Ryzen 7 9700X has a pretty low thermal design power (TDP) of just 65W, which means it doesn’t generate much heat compared to other CPUs. An AIO cooler is more about aesthetics these days, and a good air cooler would do just as well. If the AIO fails, just know it has more points of failure compared to a standard air cooler, but for gaming, you shouldn't run into any issues.

Thanks for the reassurance! I just want to enjoy my gaming without overheating worries.

You'll be alright with your setup! A dual tower air cooler would work perfectly, but AIOs are usually quieter. If you find you want to upgrade later, it won’t be necessary with how cool the 9700X runs, unless you’re really pushing it. Just focus on having fun gaming!
