Is it normal for my laptop’s battery to die after not using it for a month or two?

Hey everyone! I'm new here, but I've got a question about my laptop. I have a 2021 LG Gram that has been great until now. I haven't used it in a while and when I finally tried to turn it on, it wouldn't boot up unless I plugged it in. The battery was completely dead. Is this normal? Should I be worried about it, or is there something I can do to prevent this from happening again? It seems to be charging fine now, but I got a bit freaked out. Should I be considering replacing it?

Yeah, a lot of laptops discharge their batteries slowly when they're off. If you leave it unused for months, it's possible it might be dead when you try to use it again. Keeping an eye on it helps!

I’m starting to get that! Thanks for confirming this, looks like I've got some learning to do!

Totally normal! Laptop batteries can drain over time even when the device is off. If it’s holding a charge after you plug it in, that’s a good sign. Just try to check on it every few weeks and charge it a bit to keep the battery healthy. If it stays charged alright, then you're all good!

That’s good to hear! It’s already at 22% after charging it a bit, so maybe it was just a little sluggish from being dormant.

You're right to be concerned, but yes, it’s pretty common for a battery to drain. If you're on Windows 10 or 11, consider turning off the "fast startup" to help with battery drainage. You can also hold the shift key before shutting down to fully power it off. This helps keep the battery from dying when not in use.
