Is it okay to turn off my UPS at night?

I'm new to using a UPS and I've come across mixed opinions about whether I should turn it off at night or keep it running. I primarily use my PC and monitor connected to it every day. Would turning off my UPS during the night be okay, or should I always leave it on?

Do you usually leave your PC on overnight?

If you shut down your entire system, then you technically don’t need the UPS at night. But if your PC goes into sleep mode, you should keep the UPS on, as that still draws some power. Just depends on how you manage your system during the night!

The whole point of a UPS is to keep your equipment powered at all times. If you turn it off, it defeats the purpose, since you'll lose protection when the power goes out! I’d recommend leaving it on, especially if you plan to use your PC regularly.

But if he's not using the computer, does it really need to be on? I leave mine on too, but it seems okay to turn it off if you're not using it.

Nope, keep it on! The UPS does some self-tests and maintains battery health while it's powered. Honestly, I've found them not super helpful for surge protection, but they do give you enough time to save your work during an outage.

Exactly! It also conditions the battery, so it's ready when you need it.

It's really up to you! Leaving the UPS on is usually fine, but if you have a specific reason to turn it off, go for it. The power draw is pretty minimal either way, so you won’t notice much difference.

It really depends on the model of your UPS. Some have outlets that stay powered and others that don't. If you're not using your computer at night, turning it off might save a bit of power, but if you want protection, I’d suggest keeping it on. But if you shut down your computer every night, maybe you don't need a UPS at all – a good surge protector could suffice.

Definitely leave it on! It helps with battery conditioning and makes sure it's charged for when you actually need it.
