Is it Safe to Use a Found WiFi Router with SIM Card?

Hey everyone! I found a portable WiFi router on the street here in Denmark, and it had a SIM card in it. I tried to set it up by scanning the QR code, but it didn't work. Now I'm really curious — is it safe to use it? Could someone use this router to invade my privacy or monitor what I'm doing online? If I reset the router and use a different SIM card, would that be enough to keep things secure or should I just toss it? I appreciate any advice you can give!

Resetting the router should make it reasonably safe. One thing to be cautious about is if a VPN is set up; it could potentially funnel your data through a hacker's network. But in your case, risks of sophisticated attacks are low. Just reset, update the firmware, and you should be fine! Oh, and you can't use that SIM card; you'll need your own with an active plan.

True, but even if someone managed to intercept your traffic, most of it is encrypted now. Just make sure you're using secure settings!

I've heard of people using similar setups for years without any issues! If you're careful and do a factory reset, you might be able to use it safely. Just keep in mind, there could be hidden risks, like someone having set up a backdoor that survives a reset, but that's pretty rare.
