Hi everyone! I've been using an HP Pavilion PC for years, and I recently upgraded to an MSI GTX 970 graphics card and purchased a 550W power supply from Amazon. Here's my dilemma: the new power supply has an 8-pin PCIe connector, but it doesn't include a 6-pin connector. I'm considering using a 2x4 Molex to 1x6-pin PCIe adapter to connect it to my GTX 970 along with the 8-pin connector. My question is, is this safe? I'm not keen on waiting another month to send the power supply back for a replacement, as I've already installed it in my other PC. Thanks for any advice!

It's a bit unusual for a power supply not to have at least one 6+2 pin PCIe connector, which is standard for GPUs like the GTX 970. If yours doesn't have one, double-check the specifications. Using a Molex to PCIe adapter can work, but it's more of a temporary fix. Make sure the adapter is high-quality to avoid overheating issues. Just be cautious and monitor temperatures if you go that route.
Yeah, those adapters can be hit or miss! If you don’t notice any issues like overheating or instability, you might be okay for a while.
