Is it worth buying an SSD now even if I don’t need one?

Hey everyone! I'm thinking about upgrading my storage situation due to rising hardware prices, and I could really use your thoughts. I currently have a 5-year-old 970 EVO Plus 1 TB as my main drive, a 2 TB MX500 SATA that's almost full, and an old 500 GB Samsung SATA SSD I'm using as dump storage, which I don't fully trust anymore. My main drive is only about 50% full, so while I had plans to upgrade eventually — possibly to a 990 PRO 4 TB or 9100 PRO 4 TB when a good deal pops up — I'm wondering if I should buy one now due to the price increases and my fear of missing out. Technically, I'm fine for now, but I aim to replace my main SSD in about three years. Should I go ahead and buy one now, or stick to my plan and upgrade when I truly need to? Also, do you think SSD prices might keep rising like RAM did? I can swing the purchase now, but I wouldn't be thrilled about paying more later. Any advice would be appreciated!

I get the FOMO, but if your current setup works, I'd wait. Those high-end drives are expensive, and it's hard to justify buying something that's merely a 'just in case.' Plus, you never know — prices could drop again in the future. Keep your budget ready, and buy when you really need it!

Honestly, if you don't need the SSD right now, it might not be worth it. Prices fluctuate, and buying something three years before you actually need it seems a bit drastic. Just keep an eye on prices and buy when you're closer to needing an upgrade.

If you can afford it and are eyeing a specific model, you might want to snag it now. Last summer, I saw prices jump significantly for SSDs I was interested in. If you see a deal, grab it! But if you can hold off, that might be smarter.

Consider repurposing that old SSD for game storage; it could save you some hassle. If you're looking for a solid Gen5 option, you might also want to check out the SN8100 — good performance if you do decide to upgrade.
