Is it worth upgrading from a Ryzen 5 5600X to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D?

I'm currently running a build with an RTX 3070 Ti paired with a Ryzen 5 5600X and have 32GB of RAM. Given the soaring prices, I don't plan to upgrade to a new PC anytime soon, but I'm contemplating a CPU upgrade. I can run most new games quite well, but I've been experiencing some stutter and FPS drops occasionally. Could upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D help with these performance issues?

Honestly, I'd stick with what you have. It's doing great for 1080p and even for 1440p gaming. Maybe upgrade your monitor instead; it could elevate your gaming experience a lot!

I did the same! Swapped for an OLED monitor and it improved everything—really brought my aging setup back to life! I even managed decent performance on high settings.

You might want to hold off and look at options like the Intel 14600K and a new motherboard. They could be cheaper and offer better performance.

I had a similar setup and upgraded from a 5700X to a 5800X3D, and for me, it was worth every penny. The performance boost was significant!

What kind of performance improvements did you notice after the upgrade?

It really depends on the price. If the 5800X3D is around $200, maybe it’s worth it, but over $400? Definitely not. CPU prices are crazy right now. Honestly, I think your current GPU might not be strong enough to take advantage of a big CPU upgrade.

I agree! If the 5800X3D was priced reasonably, it could make sense, but not at that markup. I’d recommend investing in some DDR5 if you’re considering AM5 instead.

Yeah, the 5800X is decent too but won't give you as much of a performance boost as the X3D models.

With current prices, upgrading to the 5800X3D isn’t a smart move. You might end up just wasting money.

I totally get that. Paying $600 for a CPU just isn't worth it right now.
