Is my 8700K a good match for my 3080 Ti?

I've been out of the gaming hardware scene for a while, and I'm looking to boost my FPS in games like Battlefield 6. My current setup includes an i7 8700K paired with a 3080 Ti and 32GB of DDR4 RAM. I want to keep the RAM but am curious if there's a better CPU that would work well with my 3080 Ti. Any recommendations?

I had the same combo before upgrading to a 9800X3D, and let me tell you, the 8700K doesn’t do justice to that awesome GPU. You might want a new CPU to really unlock the potential of your 3080 Ti.

You might want to consider the Intel 14600K or, if you're feeling adventurous, the 14900K. Those should give you a nice boost without having to change your whole setup.

Honestly, the 12600K or 14600K would be your best bets while sticking to DDR4. But before you upgrade, have you tried overclocking your current CPU and RAM? It could really help your performance!

I was thinking about trying to overclock! Though I've been learning about undervolting since the 3080 Ti runs pretty hot.

If you’re aiming for maximum performance, looking at a 12700K or a 13700K could be a great move. Your 8700K is probably bottlenecking in newer titles like Battlefield 6, but your RAM is still solid!

What motherboard do you recommend for upgrading? And should I look into a new chipset?

I’m in a similar situation with my setup and indeed noticed modern games make it struggle. I’m planning a complete rebuild with a Z890 motherboard and DDR5 RAM to stay future-proof.
