Is My Motherboard’s Ethernet Port Dead?

Hey everyone! I need a sanity check before I consider returning my motherboard. I recently built a new system, and it's been giving me constant issues. Here are my specs: Ryzen 7800X3D, 32GB Kingston Fury 6000MHz, Gigabyte B650M AORUS ELITE AX, 9070XT, Samsung 990 Pro SSD, and a 750W PSU.

I installed Windows without any issues, but once I started installing drivers, Windows began downloading a ton of updates. After a reboot, my system started acting weird—booting up but not loading programs, and my keyboard was mostly unresponsive except for the run command.

Eventually, I figured out that conflicts between the video drivers were causing the problems, and after disabling automatic driver updates and reinstalling the drivers, things were back to normal. However, during this mess, my ethernet connection disappeared! I thought it might have been a corrupted driver, so I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but it never came back in Device Manager.

Even after a fresh Windows install, the ethernet adapter is missing completely. I've checked the BIOS settings and toggled the network stack, but nothing worked. I'm still getting a green light on the ethernet port, even when disabled in BIOS, but no response from it at all. Could this be a hardware failure? I would appreciate any insights before I consider RMAing the board!

Have you tried downloading the network driver directly from the motherboard manufacturer’s website? It does sound like a hardware issue, but you might want to reset the CMOS if you haven't done that yet.

I had a similar issue with my ethernet. After trying new cables and updating drivers with no luck, I unplugged my PC from the PSU for a few hours (like overnight). When I plugged it back in and rebooted, the ethernet worked again. Might be worth a shot!

I'll definitely try that tonight, thanks for the suggestion!

Have you considered doing a BIOS update? Sometimes, an update can fix such issues.
